New Orleans Mission Trip

March 9 - 14, 2014

We had eighteen eager participants attend.  Many had never gone on a mission trip and didn't have a clue what to expect. Once we arrived at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Slidell LA, we received a list of items we can help with at the church. They had hosted almost 100,000 volunteer since Katrina hit in 2005, yes...100,000! No group has ever offered to come help the church, who serves so many, the way we have.

They are really appreciative that we are power washing their building, painting benches (almost ten in all!) building a fence, cleaning out gutters, painting just about anything that doesn't move and helping to refurbish a bridge that goes from a nursing facility to a prayer garden on campus where many have spread loved ones ashes.

This is a very sacred site and we have really enjoyed sprucing it up. We have also been having devotionals twice a day and served at dinner. There were 150 other people there from six different states. They have been going out into the surrounding areas working on houses still damaged from Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Ike. Yes, there is still much devastation in the area.  We are so proud of everyone here with our group.
